Book Description: Complete, Unabridged, Restored - 2 for 1! From the visions of Blessed Catherine Emmerich detailing how the Holy Mother lived and was assumed into Heaven to become our Eternal Queen, and +Brand new illustrations from Sequential Artist Jacob Rice +Study questions +Biography and +A Treatise on Catholic Theology and the Bible. The Glories of Mary is a classic of Mariology, written during the 18th century by Saint Alphonsus Liguori, the great Doctor of the Church. The book was written at a time when Jansenists criticized Marian devotions, and was written in part as a defense of Marian devotion. The book combines numerous citations in favor of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary from the Church Fathers and the Doctors of the Church with Saint Alphonsus' own personal views on Marian veneration and includes a number of Marian prayers and practices. Part 1 focuses on the Salve Regina and explains how God gave Mary to mankind as the "Gate of Heaven". St. Alphonsus quotes Saint Bonaventure: "No one can enter Heaven unless by Mary, as though through a door." Part 2 deals with the key Marian feasts such as the Immaculate Conception, Nativity, Purification, Annunciation, Assumption, etc. Part 3 looks at the Seven Sorrows of Mary, explaining how her "prolonged martyrdom" was greater than that of all other martyrs. In part 4 fourth we discuss ten different virtues of the Blessed Virgin, while part 5 rounds out the work with a collection of prayers, meditations and devotions.

Conceived as a sequel to the 1976 exhibition "Age of Spirituality," which focused on the first centuries of Byzantium. Preceding the catalogue, 17 essays treat the historical context, religious sphere, and secular courtly realm of the empire, and the interactions between Byzantium and other medieval cultures. Book Description: "Italian Literature before 1900 in English Translation provides the most complete record possible of texts from the early periods that have been translated into English, and published between 1929 and 2008. It lists works from all genres and subjects, and includes translations wherever they have appeared across the globe. In this annotated bibliography, Robin Healey covers over 5,200 distinct editions of pre-1900 Italian writings. Most entries are accompanied by useful notes providing information on authors, works, translators, and how the translations were received. Among the works by over 1,500 authors represented in this volume are hundreds of editions by Italy's most translated authors - Dante Alighieri, [Niccoláo] Machiavelli, and [Giovanni] Boccaccio - and other hundreds which represent the author's only English translation. A significant number of entries describe works originally published in Latin. Together with Healey's Twentieth-Century Italian Literature in English Translation, this volume makes comprehensive information on translations accessible for schools, libraries, and those interested in comparative literature."--Pub. desc.

Book Description: Your Special 2 for 1 Illustrated and annotated edition includes: • 14 Stations of the Cross by Jacob Rice • Extensive Glossary of time-honored Catholic expressions • Stabat Mater in both English and Latin • Essay Narrative on the Last Hours of John of the Cross +Dark Night of the Soul - The Dark night has been described as a point of deep "spiritual crisis" and the pathway Fray John lays out isn't merely to recover but to thrive and experience true union with God. This is mysticism with a purpose, to change your life right now, to become more like Christ every day. This is no bleak night but a bright light of hope lit on a clear path to living holiness by the premier spiritual master, St. John of the Cross. In a homily commemorating the martyrdom of St. John the Baptist, Pope Francis remarked "I think of the dark night of the soul of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta” and is inspired with the hope only Christ can give each of us. Together St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila are considered the founders of the Discalced Carmelites. +The Way of the Cross - St. Alphonsus Liguori's method is the most treasured way of praying the stations ever to bless Christendom. The Saint is also the creator of the classic "The Glories of Mary." The pious practice has been around since Christians visited the Holy Land the the 5th Century and emulated the actual way of the cross. In the 14th century, to remind Catholics of the ties to the Holy land the Franciscans promoted the devotion and ever since it has become an annual Lenten tradition.

Book Description: This book argues that the Baroque painter, propagandist, and diplomat, Peter Paul Rubens, was not only aware of rapidly shifting religious and cultural attitudes toward women, but actively engaged in shaping them. Today, Rubens's paintings continue to be used-and abused-to prescribe and proscribe certain forms of femininity. Repositioning some of the artist's best-known works within seventeenth-century Catholic theology and female court culture provides a feminist corrective to a body of art historical scholarship in which studies of gender and religion are often mutually exclusive. Moving chronologically through Rubens's lengthy career, the author shows that, in relation to the powerful women in his life, Rubens figured the female form as a transhistorical carrier of meaning whose devotional and rhetorical efficacy was heightened rather than diminished by notions of female difference and particularity.
