From the author of A Prayer for Owen Meany and The World According to Garp comes "his most daringly political, sexually transgressive, and moving novel in well over a decade" (Vanity Fair). A New York Times bestselling novel of desire, secrecy, and sexual identity, In One Person is a story of unfulfilled love—tormented, funny, and affecting—and an impassioned embrace of our sexual differences. Billy, the bisexual narrator and main character of In One Person, tells the tragicomic story (lasting more than half a century) of his life as a "sexual suspect," a phrase first used by John Irving in 1978 in his landmark novel of "terminal cases," The World According to Garp. In One Person is a poignant tribute to Billy’s friends and lovers—a theatrical cast of characters who defy category and convention. Not least, In One Person is an intimate and unforgettable portrait of the solitariness of a bisexual man who is dedicated to making himself "worthwhile."

This text defends a special focus on Jesus in theistic faith, whilst denying his divinity. Having limited the genuine choice in Christology to orthodoxy or unitarianism, it argues first for the prior improbability of an incarnation, examining and dismissing possible justifications.

*Longlisted for the 2020 Stella Prize* A poignant, bright and elegiac work of illustrated nonfiction by one of Australia's most revered comics makers. When One Person Dies The Whole World Is Over is a quietly enthralling and intimate work about the search for meaning in the everyday, and what it might mean to belong. A record of a year of a life, When One Person Dies The Whole World Is Over is an attempt to pin down time, to capture the most beautiful and fleeting moments that we tend to rush past. This is the story of a person and those that surround her. It's about ageing, love, and loss, and how we might try to balance work and family and art in this confusing modern world. Funny, sad, and perfectly magnetic, When One Person Dies The Whole World Is Over draws you in deep; before you know it you're caring intensely about the lives into which we are given some precious glimpses.

Addresses the challenge of living in a world broken by intractable issues of poverty and injustice, and offers meditations followed by practical suggestions on how churches and individuals can actually make a difference. What Can One Person Do? confronts a poverty-stricken world, and with clarity of purpose offers practical steps to create lasting change. Global poverty can be reduced through a series of achievable objectives: the eight Millennium Development goals agreed to by the international community at the Millennium Summit in 2000. World leaders and faith communities have adopted the MDGs, as well as the ideas found within this book--for the authors demonstrate that as shared vision grows and as these goals are accomplished, human communities shall indeed flourish.

Why do men talk and women gossip, and which is better for you? Why is monogamy a drain on the brain? And why should you be suspicious of someone who has more than 150 friends on Facebook? We are the product of our evolutionary history, and this history colors our everyday lives—from why we joke to the depth of our religious beliefs. In How Many Friends Does One Person Need? Robin Dunbar uses groundbreaking experiments that have forever changed the way evolutionary biologists explain how the distant past underpins our current behavior. We know so much more now than Darwin ever did, but the core of modern evolutionary theory lies firmly in Darwin’s elegantly simple idea: organisms behave in ways that enhance the frequency with which genes are passed on to future generations. This idea is at the heart of Dunbar’s book, which seeks to explain why humans behave as they do. Stimulating, provocative, and immensely enjoyable, his book invites you to explore the number of friends you have, whether you have your father’s brain or your mother’s, whether morning sickness might actually be good for you, why Barack Obama’s 2008 victory was a foregone conclusion, what Gaelic has to do with frankincense, and why we laugh. In the process, Dunbar examines the role of religion in human evolution, the fact that most of us have unexpectedly famous ancestors, and why men and women never seem able to see eye to eye on color.

This is a true story...in as much as one person's truth can be. I'm not a self-proclaimed activist or a professional writer. I'm just a person who struggles through life trying to make good decisions while attempting not to hurt anyone in the process. Prior to starting this journal I communicated with a Christian broadcasting host who promoted pervasive Christian fundamentalist theology forbidding homosexuality. I used excerpts from many of our original emails, which included short comprehensive essays about the Scripture passages that appear to discuss same-gender sexual behavior, and alternated chapters between the past and the present. Over the course of time our opinions were expressed in ever-increasing frankness and patterns of stubborn refusal to yield to the others point of view...giving testament to the battle that rages on in our communities regarding the issue of homosexuality. This journal is a chronological description of historical facts, painful moments and surprising revelations of my life as a gay Christian, including the admission that God spoke directly to me many years ago. I portray the events from a uniquely personal perspective by expressing my commitment to God, an awareness of my sexual identity and my ultimate decision to live as God created me. I describe the pain of spiritual violence, the ache for acceptance and the resulting anger towards the injustice of prejudice. I do not believe that God created opposition to homosexuality. Any more than I believe He caused the murder, persecution and oppression of other faiths, minority races or women for thousands of years. I believe the true cause originates from those who possess a strong desire to manipulate their surroundings so that their surroundings agree with their own understanding of God. And I believe that God will always be on the side of the oppressed...not the oppressor.

Why is it that some employees, regardless of their strong skills and knowledge base, still underperform? The answer may lie in other root causes in the workplace: the environment or culture, the available tools and resources or a lack of systems or processes. Isolating a root cause—and its corresponding performance opportunity— is the first step in helping an employee develop and grow. Only then can a targeted solution, whether a job redesign or one-on-one coaching or training, be identified and applied so that individuals can achieve peak performance. Developing Exemplary Performance One Person at a Time lays out a simple process to identify the “right” performance focus—one exemplary strength that can be leveraged and one “expandable” strength with development potential—and turn it into results that support an organization’s overall strategy and success.
