Book Description: Dostoevsky’s beautiful writing style and universal themes make this epic 19th century novel unmissable. The Brothers Karamazov is a murder mystery, a courtroom drama, and an exploration of erotic rivalry in a series of triangular love affairs involving Karamazov and his three sons - the impulsive and sensual Dmitri; the coldly rational Ivan; and the healthy young novice Alyosha. Through the gripping events of their story, Dostoevsky portrays the social and spiritual strivings in what was both a golden age and a tragic turning point in Russian history.

Book Description: THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV Father and Son's Rivalry Results in Death! A crime story and a philosophical debate of God, free-will and, morality. This book revolves around a murder mystery. It is an erotic rivalry in a triangle of love affairs between Fyodor Pavlorich Karamazov and his three sons- Dmitri, Ivan, and Alyosha. To some extent, it also involves his fourth son-Smerdyakov born of a retarded mute girl. The author portrays Fyodor as a rich, senseless, mean, and wicked person who had no respect for women and was always led by his loins. He never raised his sons who were born of his first and second wife. Dmitri was the son of the first wife. He is hot-headed and impulsive. He confronts his father about the inheritance that was left to him by his late mother. The two sons from the second wife were Ivan a cold but intellectual young man who was very philosophical, and Alyosha a kind and naïve young man of around twenty years. He is an apprentice at the monastery where he studies with Zosima a renowned aged elder. The authors take us through a conflict between Dmitri and his father where they get into a heated argument turned shouting match quarreling about both the inheritance and Grushenka-a beautiful girl they are both in love with. They are both trying to win the affection of this girl. Their rivalry accelerates to a point of Dmitri physically harming Fyodor. The author gives more details in the book on the following: Dmitri attack on Fyodor over Grushenka. The 'Grand Inquisitor' poem by Ivan. Grushenka's friendship with Alyosha. Dmitri is accused of Fyodor's murder. Smerdyakov's confession of murder and his suicide. Alyosha and the schoolboys. Katerina nurses Ivan after a nervous breakdown. Fyodor Dostoyevsky was born in Moscow on November 11, 1821. He was arrested for getting involved with the politically subversive 'Petrashevsky circle'. He lived in a convict prison in Omsk, Siberia. He died on February 9, 1881 in St Petersburg, Russia

Book Description: The Brothers Karamazov Volume 2 By Fyodor Dostoyevsky Dostoyevsky's towering reputation as one of the handful of thinkers who forged the modern sensibility has sometimes obscured the purely novelistic virtues-brilliant characterizations, flair for suspense and melodrama, instinctive theatricality-that made his work so immensely popular in nineteenth-century Russia. The Brothers Karamazov, his last and greatest novel, published just before his death in 1881, chronicles the bitter love-hate struggle between the outsized Fyodor Karamazov and his three very different sons. It is above all the story of a murder, told with hair-raising intellectual clarity and a feeling for the human condition unsurpassed in world literature. We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection.
